Helio-KNOW

NASA hackathon · 2024 · Product designer

Hackathon prototype

A prototype for exploring heliophysics knowledge as a network of phenomena around the Earth. Scientists compare their own model with identified conjunctions, side by side, and switch between network, table and timeline views. I designed it with the project's principal investigator.

Helio-KNOW: the scientist's model on the left and identified conjunctions on the right, as networks of phenomena around the Earth.

ALMA integrated alarm system

ALMA Observatory · ESO · Aug 2017 – Jan 2019 · UX designer

ALMA's 66 antennas move between 192 pads on the Chajnantor plateau, at 5,000 metres. Operators read alarms from panels that worked differently from each other, so finding a cause was slow. With Inria's HCI experts, operators and engineers, we set one rule: an error is not automatically an alarm. Inputs are judged against rules the users define, and operators drill down a hierarchy of components to the root cause.

The ALMA alarm system: a map of the antenna pads spread across the site, beside a grid of antenna statuses.
